Today, the situation on the market for centrifugal pumps for wells has changed noticeably; if a couple of years ago Grundfos was especially popular, almost everyone installed them, but now they have lost their former popularity. This contributed to the growth of the middle price segment, in which well pumps from Italy have firmly taken their place. In one of our materials we looked at Italian Pedrollo pumps, and today it’s time to look at the slightly cheaper Speroni.
Recently, on the Russian market, the name Speroni has been removed and replaced by WATERSTRY. No need to worry, these are the same Speroni.

Having extensive experience in installing these devices, we will share with you our experience and leave our feedback on Speroni pumps. We’ll also tell you about them technical specifications, how they differ from each other, and we present the main pros and cons of these devices.

Speroni SQS borehole pumps

A series of narrow submersible pumps, 3 inches in size, designed for installation in wells drilled with 133 mm pipe + 117 mm or 110 mm plastic. Their diameter is 75 mm, which means the Speroni SQS can also be lowered into narrower casing pipes. The minimum diameter of such a pipe can be calculated as follows: 75 mm diameter of the pump + 4 mm gap between the pump and the pipe + 15 mm thickness of plastic HDPE pipes. We get a minimum outer diameter of the pipe of 94 mm.
The Speroni SQS centrifugal well pump is a real salvation for the summer resident. Previously, there were quite a few 3-inch pumps and you almost always had to buy expensive Grundfos. Now you can install Speroni SQS and save several tens of thousands of rubles.

  • Reliability. Speroni's main series deep-well pumps (STS and SPS) are quite reliable and have proven themselves, but they are manufactured in Taiwan, while SQS is produced in China. Its production was launched not so long ago and there is no information about its actual service life. But so far everything is good and no complaints.
  • The narrow model range does not allow you to choose a pump for a well with a productivity of 3 m 3 / hour and higher for water supply to your home.

Price-quality Speroni SQS is at high level.

Speroni STS pump

Well pump Speroni STS has a typical diameter of 4 inches or 98 mm, which imposes restrictions on the ability to install in some wells. For example, the minimum diameter of the casing into which this pump can be lowered is 125 mm or more.
The Speroni STS centrifugal pump itself has a stainless steel body and impellers made of noril plastic. But don’t let this scare you, the pump is quite reliable and durable. Before handing over the well, the drillers have already pumped your well, you already have clean water, there is nothing in it that would erase this plastic.
The STS model range is very wide and you can always find optimal device for your well.
In Russia, the centrifugal Speroni STS is being replaced by the Waterstry STS. This is the same Speroni, but under a different brand.

  • Great price, these models are quite cheap, often cheaper than other deep well pumps from Italy.
  • High reliability. The Speroni STS is assembled in Taiwan and, judging by the quality, they are assembled really well. We have extensive experience in installing these devices and have not yet received any complaints about their operation.
    It can be assumed that the service life of Speroni pumps is more than 10 years, with periodic adjustment of the automatic pressure control.
  • Wide range of models, you can always choose a model for your well.
  • No. Perhaps for some, a diameter of 4 inches will be a minus.

These centrifugal pumps are made entirely of stainless steel. But the seals between the wheels are still rubber.
The question arises: which is better Speroni STS or SPS?
The model with the SPS index is a fairly simple pump in design; it is often used by drillers to pump a well. It can be easily disassembled and put back together, which is not the case with the Speroni STS. For a summer resident whose pump will be constantly in the well, all this is of no use. Therefore, it makes no difference to you which pump to choose. The reliability of both is at the same high level, but the Speroni STS is slightly cheaper.

In Russia you can also buy the Waterstry SPS model, it’s just a renamed Speroni SPS.

Each working chamber contains an impeller, a diffuser and a chamber body. The final stage of the pump is equipped check valve and an outlet with internal thread. The fluid enters the hydraulic part through a hole in the adapter flange, protected from sand, drilling products and other foreign objects using a special strainer. The hydraulic part is structurally designed with a floating impeller, which reduces the requirements for the starting torque and reduces the abrasive effect of sand in water. In the STS series, the impeller is made of noryl, a very durable polymer material, a mixture of polyphenylene oxide (PPO) and polystyrene (PS), which was developed by General Electric Plastics in 1966.
The connection between the motor and the pump is made in accordance with NEMA standard.
Installation:
These pumps are designed specifically for use in wells. As a result, the electric motor is cooled here by a flow of water moving from bottom to top along the motor to input filter between it and the pump part. Therefore, it is possible to install a borehole pump in a tank or well, but it is necessary to place the product inside a cooling casing, thereby simulating operating conditions in a well. Horizontal installation of the SQS pump is also possible, in which case the outlet pipe should be located slightly above the intake opening.
The connection of the standard motor to the waterproof power cable must be done by installing a waterproof poured or heat-shrinkable adhesive sleeve (see section Accessories, WATERSTY sleeves).
The cross-section of the power cable is selected depending on the power of the electric motor and the required length to the power source (see the corresponding section of the instructions for the pump). The main difference between the STS and SPS series pumps is the material of the impellers and diffusers, as well as the design of the pump housing. The STS series uses noryl for manufacturing. A set of impellers and diffusers is placed in a sleeve that reliably protects the working elements of the pump. The surface of impellers and diffusers made of noril has a low surface roughness, so the hydraulic parameters of the flow path are quite high.
To solve the problems of water supply to a private home, a pump with a capacity of no more than 5 cubic meters is sufficient, so the STS series pumps (with pressure characteristics of more than 30 atm.) fully satisfy these requirements.
